| ABOUT BERYL |
|
| Beryl Harris, our residence gardening expert,
holds a Masters Degree in Horticulture from the University of
Guelph; and is a York University graduate. She is also a Rosarian
(to lean more about this, please click
here), an Ontario Horticulture Association Judge and a Creative
Design Judge – in fact, Beryl is qualified to judge just about
anything that grows (honey, hay, flowers, trees, pumpkins, plants,
etc.).
Beryl is the District Director of the Ontario Horticultural
Association and past President of the Lakefield Horticultural
Society, a position she held for many years.
In addition to her administrative roles, Beryl teaches courses
at the Peterborough Environmental Garden and has her own regular
newspaper column. She also finds time to create flower arrangements
for a variety of special events, to work at “Ontario Blooms”
(the major garden show that attracts visitors from all over
the province), to judge roses at the Royal Winter fair in
Toronto and the Canadian National Exhibition. She is also
much in demand as a judge at various flower shows in Toronto
and her hometown of Peterborough. You’ll also find her at
country fairs throughout the province judging everything from
squashes to the maple syrup some people cook them in. |

Beryl’s work in the community is renown and
she has received several awards for her many contributions,
including: The Canada 125 award (given to a select group of
Canadians on our country’s 125th anniversary), Citizen of
the Year, an Award of Merit from the Ontario Horticultural
Association, and a variety of other horticultural awards.
As testament to her work in the gardening arena a lily was
developed in her honour. Like the woman, the Beryl Harris
Lily is a beautiful plant with purple and white flowers:
We at ForGreatStuff.com are delighted
and honoured that Beryl Harris has agreed to take on this
role for us. Her expertise and humour are highly valued, and
much appreciated, by all our readers.
